3. YACHT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The yacht management system is built on a customizable and modular approach allowing onboard subsystems to be managed individually yet without compromising the elegance and comfort characterizing an integrated system. Designed with flexibility and new technology in mind, the yacht management system constitutes a networked multiuser environment giving owners and guests access to onboard entertainment, internet and other information anywhere, anytime. In addition, owners and crewmembers have access to operation and navigation information as well as relevant documentation. The following subsystems are integrated into the yacht management system:

3.1 Monitoring and Control
Data collected from engines, generators, pumps, tanks and other onboard sensors and equipment is presented together with alarm information. Usingthe built-in speechengine, alarms are read aloud as they emerge. Main engine, generators, all pumps, air condition, navigational lights, fuel system, blackwater treatment plant, watermakers and power management system are all controlled from the yacht management system.
A customizable database keeps track of the precise extent and type of the attached equipment combined with alarm limits and information.

3.2 Navigation
A fully featured navigation software program is accessible from any computer attached to the network.
3.3 Entertainment
A centralized media server provides a permanent store for music and movies. Thereby differentmedia are easily served to any computer in the network. To enjoy any type of media just select it from the play list and of you go. Picture and sound fill your screen and your surround speakers.
Available DVD-movies, surveillance cameras, CD-music, digital satellite television and radio channels are organized in play lists making finding and playing any type of media extremely simple.
Play lists are managed centrally and stored along with the media on the media server. When serving movies and other media, guests can independently select any movie or media at any time. It is no longer necessary to watch the same movie at the same time or different movies atdifferent times.
Vera IV - Vera 4 3.4 Communication
If connected to the internet, guests and crew will have access to World Wide Web and email from any computer.
3.5 Documentation
Documentation, system help, manuals, photos, drawings, parts lists and other information are easily accessible from any location on the yacht.
3.6 Technical Overview
Based on readily available hardware, the yacht management system consists of three servers and any number of client computers connected by an Ethernet network. All computers have Windows 2000 installed. The system further includes a set of input/output modules interconnected by a field bus. Surveillance video and antenna signals for satellite television are distributed on a dedicated coaxial network.
3.7 Servers
Three special purpose servers each play an important role:
The data acquisition and processing server controls the data transfer to and from the input/output-modules on the field bus. Data is processed by the server and distributed to all client subscribers. The ECDIS server is responsible for distributing charts and navigational information to clients. Finally, the media server stores and serves media like DVD-movies and CD-music. The server is equipped with a high capacity hard disk array.
3.8 Clients
Client computers are personal computers extended with specialized hardware for the reception of digital satellite television and video surveillance. Together with the attached LCD-screen and surround-speakers, each client computer makes up a complete information and entertainment system.
